The Process

When you schedule us to capture your birth story, we will establish the time frame for your reservation. For first-time moms, that’s typically starting on your due date and the week following (with additional time as added option). Once 36 weeks comes along, we will be checking in more regularly to see how things are moving along. We will also be in contact with your doula or midwife to keep informed from their end. The goal would be to arrive as active labor begins (around 6cm in dilation), but that can be adjusted beforehand if you wish.

During your labor, we will do our best to be a good ninja and fade in the background. We often assist your partner and/or doula so that you can have the most support possible, even if that means interacting more with other guests that you might not want in the room. Depending on the circumstance, we may step out to give you some privacy or alone time. But we will remain close in case you need anything. When it’s time for baby to enter this world, we are typically off to the side to capture the emotions and details that you won’t likely notice or remember. If you wish to have the actual delivery captured, we are happy to do that. But we will stick with what you’re comfortable with and that we agree upon beforehand.

While we can’t guarantee that we will get every shot that you’d like during your labor, we will do the best that we can. But we do promise that we will do everything in our ability to tell the miraculous story of bringing your beautiful child in the world.

The Dude-la

Paul was the primary care taker for his father as his health declined during Paul’s college years. Since then, he’s had a growing interest in medicine and has travelled extensively throughout the world as a documentary photographer for medical teams. He even looked into becoming a PA, NP, or EMT. But his love for photography has kept him in this field.

His job as a visual storyteller, paired with his experiences in the medical world, allows him a very fun opportunity to be more than just an artist with a camera in a delivery room. Rather, his primary focus is to be a part of your birth team and care for your family. Because of all of this, he’s earned a nickname among several birth professionals as the Dude-la (or Doudla). It’s a term he takes pride in because it shows the trust that so many others have in him during the labor and delivery process.

DAY AFTER PHOTOS

Investment

People are often surprised at the cost of photography, but then we point to wedding photography as the closest comparison. However, with birth photography, you don’t know the exact date or time, so you’re on call for weeks. You’ll likely be called in during the late night hours. You’ll have very little light. You don’t know how long you’ll be shooting for. And you don’t know the exact sequence of events. As a birth photographer, we have to be flexible, technically proficient, and personally sensitive to the very intimate situation that is birth. we understand that finances can be a limiting factor, we are happy to offer payment plans, gift certificates, and other payment options.

Additional services include documentary photography after delivery (in postpartum or at home), extended coverage, maternity portraits, newborn/family photos, heirloom albums, or slideshow videos. Package options are also available for discounted pricing.

If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact us so that we can discuss your needs and we can get you current pricing & packages.

The DBS Team

Dallas Birth Stories is primarily operated by Paul Golangco of Paul Go Images. However, because of the nature of this type of photography and its very loose scheduling demands, several photographers may provide additional coverage to ensure your birth story is beautifully captured with the same ethic and style that Dallas Birth Stories have come to be known by. Please talk to Paul if you have any additional questions or concerns regarding the team.
